Top Stories: The Most Popular Halloween Costumes According to Google Search Data

(WHNT) — Witches, Spider-Men, and dinosaurs — oh my! These are just a few of the top-trending Halloween costumes in the U.S. as we approach October 31, according to Google’s 2022 Frightgeist report, released earlier this week.
Since its debut in 2015, Google’s annual Frightgeist report has used search data from Google Trends to identify America’s most popular costume ideas in the months leading up to Halloween. The report also provides regional insights, allowing users to explore the most-searched costumes in specific states or metro areas.
For example, in Honolulu, “Maui” (likely inspired by the character from Disney’s Moana) topped the search list, while Chicagoans were more interested in costumes from Stranger Things.
Nationally, the top-searched costume was the classic “Witch,” followed closely by “Spider-Man” and “Dinosaur.”
Here are America’s top 10 costume ideas for 2022, based on Google Trends data:
