Former Crimson Tide Head Coach Honored at Sports Award Show

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Former Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban was honored with the 2024 ESPY “Icon” Award on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Saban received the prestigious award from two former Alabama players: 2008 Heisman Trophy winner and running back Mark Ingram, and 2021 Heisman Trophy winner and quarterback Bryce Young.

“People aren’t going to remember what you say; they’re going to remember how you made them feel,” Saban remarked during his acceptance speech.

Saban retired as Alabama’s head coach in January 2024, leaving behind an illustrious legacy that includes six National Championships (2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2020) and 11 SEC Championships. He also coached Alabama’s first four Heisman Trophy winners: Mark Ingram, Derrick Henry, DeVonta Smith, and Bryce Young.
