Harper and Clemens Propel Phillies to 4-3 Extra-Inning Victory Over Nationals

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bryce Harper delivered a game-winning sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, following Kody Clemens’ dramatic game-tying home run with two outs in the ninth, securing a 4-3 victory for the Philadelphia Phillies over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night.

Bryson Stott also contributed with a home run for the Phillies, who have maintained an impressive streak of winning or splitting their last 14 series. The Phillies (33-14) currently boast the most wins in baseball and are eyeing a series sweep on Sunday.

CJ Abrams and Ildemaro Vargas each recorded three hits for the Nationals, who are struggling with four consecutive losses and defeats in six of their last seven games.

With runners on second and third and one out in the 10th, Harper faced Washington closer Kyle Finnegan (1-3) and drove a 1-2 splitter into center field, bringing home Johan Rojas. Harper celebrated exuberantly, throwing his hands in the air upon reaching first base, where he was joyfully mobbed by his teammates.

In the ninth, Finnegan retired the first two batters before Clemens smashed a 1-0, 98 mph fastball into the right-center seats, tying the game. Despite limited play this season, Clemens is showing his prowess with 7 hits in 23 at-bats (.304), including a double, three homers, and eight RBIs. Finnegan, who entered the game tied for the major league lead with 13 saves, suffered his second blown save of the season.
