Motorsport is for the Girls Now
If you’ve noticed a significant push to include women in motorsport marketing campaigns and sponsorships, there’s a compelling reason. History is set to be made at the 2024 Indianapolis 500, but perhaps not in the way you’d expect. This year’s race won’t be the first contested by a woman or person of color, nor will it offer the largest prize purse since its inception in 1911. Instead, look closely, and you’ll see it clearly: Motorsport is for the girls now.
Take a look at Katherine Legge’s No. 51 Honda. At first glance, its red nose and black wings might make you think it’s a typical Dale Coyne Racing machine, fielded in partnership with Rick Ware Racing. But look closer. The words on the wing and the black-and-pink sidepods reveal something groundbreaking: a partnership with e.l.f., marking the first-ever beauty brand to serve as a primary sponsor in Indy 500 history. It’s a clear sign that the times are changing.
