RECAP: Panthers 5, Maple Leafs 2

SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers sealed a banner year with a resounding 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Amerant Bank Arena, claiming the Atlantic Division title in style.

Head coach Paul Maurice beamed with pride as he praised his team’s hard-fought win, stating, “I’m happy for the guys. They worked hard tonight, battled again and got back to where they’re supposed to be.”

With five wins in their last six games, the Panthers (52-24-6, 110 points) clinched the division crown, finishing just one point ahead of the Boston Bruins (47-20-15, 109 points), who fell to the Ottawa Senators. This marks the Panthers’ fourth division championship in franchise history.

As division champions, the Panthers are now set to face off against their cross-state rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in the first round of the playoffs.

Forward Matthew Tkachuk expressed excitement about the upcoming playoff matchup, saying, “Very exciting for this opportunity to be back in the playoffs the way last year went… I think it’s very fitting to be playing Tampa in this first round.”

The game saw an early power play goal from the Maple Leafs’ Mitch Marner, followed by Noah Gregor extending their lead with a well-placed shot through traffic. However, the Panthers responded emphatically, scoring four goals in the second period to secure the victory.
