Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud attributes his historic achievement as the youngest quarterback to win an NFL playoff game to his faith in God. Following the Texans’ impressive 45-14 wild card victory over the Cleveland Browns on January 13, 2024, Stroud, at 22 years and 102 days old, surpassed the previous record held by Michael Vick.
Expressing gratitude during a press conference, Stroud described his success as a “blessing” from the Almighty. As the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and a strong contender for the NFL Rookie of the Year Award, he acknowledged the role of Christian head coach DeMeco Ryans in fostering team unity and camaraderie among like-minded believers.
Reflecting on the journey, Stroud shared, “It’s been a heck of a year. I thank God I can just go another week with my teammates. This is like a dream come true as a reminder of how close we are as a team. We all blend well together—offense, defense, special teams.”
Expressing excitement for the team and the city of Houston, Stroud emphasized the blessing of being in his current position. He acknowledged the collective effort of the team, stating, “It’s cool to see the fruits of your labor come to be true. I’m super blessed to be considered with a great name like DeMeco Ryans. He was my favorite quarterback growing up. I’m super blessed and hopefully I can make it too.”
