EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Up close, the white No. 8 on Daniel Jones’ red New York Giants practice jersey is frayed and cracking apart. This sweat-drenched jersey resembles the first Champion jersey you wore non-stop as a kid, now packed away in your parents’ attic.

It’s fitting attire for a player who’s been through so much.

Few quarterbacks have been as physically battered and mentally tested as the 27-year-old Jones over the past six seasons.

With hair matted with perspiration, Jones sits under a small patch of shade at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center after Thursday’s training camp practice. The temperature climbed into the high 90s today. He sports a promising base for a beard, not patchy, but coming in strong.

His coach, Brian Daboll, has been ramping up the urgency. You’ll see more 11-on-11 work here than at just about any other camp. As teammates pass by, they dap up their QB one by one. “Boss today!” says veteran Isaiah Simmons. “Boss!” Linebacker Bobby Okereke’s eyes simply widen as he slaps Jones’ hand. This was a good day, indeed, highlighted by a picturesque deep ball to sixth overall pick Malik Nabers.

Here’s Daniel Jones on his 2024 hopes, Daboll, Nabers, his knee, and his thoughts on the Giants’ QB pursuit on Hard Knocks: “It ticks you off.”
