‘Ain’t it fun’ to be noticed by your idol?
Manila-based illustrator CJ Pangindian recently shared his unforgettable interaction with Hayley Williams, lead vocalist of Paramore, prompted by a viral thread about “kwentong third world artist” on X.
On Thursday, Sept. 28, Pangindian reminisced about his 2018 “After Laughter”-inspired sticker set, which he created to sell online in hopes of buying a new phone. To his astonishment, Williams noticed his work. The American record label, Fueled by Ramen, reached out to Pangindian to express Williams’ interest in merchandising his design.
‘That’s what you get when you let your heart win’
Pangindian has been passionate about art since childhood but began seriously marketing his designs on social media in 2016. His illustrations range from Ghibli-inspired concepts to Paramore fan art. Inspired by Paramore’s fifth album, After Laughter, he crafted watercolor paintings using its soft-toned color scheme.
“After Laughter became my instant favorite as I was going through the same situation that the album narrates. I got inspired to paint, and I didn’t expect that Hayley Williams herself would see it!” Pangindian expressed.
In November 2018, Paramore’s official Facebook page introduced their merchandise lineup featuring designs by “pals from the community,” including Pangindian’s “Paramore Little Rain Cloud T-Shirt.”
